Oh, joy. More 'Sword Art Online.' Bandai Namco Filmworks has decided to bless us with a new anime special tied to their 'Echoes of Aincrad' RPG. Titled 'Unanswered//butterfly,' it’s going to be bundled with the ultimate and premium editions of the game, because apparently, they think we’ll buy anything with 'Sword Art Online' on it. They’ve even released a teaser visual and a trailer, because why not keep the brand alive, right?
Tomoyo Kurosawa and Kouki Uchiyama are set to voice Emirun and Rex, respectively. So, at least there are some decent voice actors involved. The special will also have a promotional screening event on May 9th. It’s all very… Sword Art Online. If you’re still invested in this franchise after all these years, then this is probably your idea of a good time. For the rest of us, it’s just another reminder that this juggernaut isn't going anywhere.
I suppose it's a nice little bonus for the dedicated fans who are shelling out for the fancy editions of the game. It’s not like I’m going to play the RPG or watch the special, but hey, to each their own. It’s just another piece of merchandise in the ever-expanding universe of virtual reality death games. Don't expect me to get emotionally invested, though. I’ve seen enough anime for a lifetime.
"More Sword Art Online? Groundbreaking. At least it's just a special, not a whole new series I have to pretend to care about." — The Tsundere Critic
