Alright, another one of those fantasy romance things is getting an anime. 'Oni no Hanayome,' or 'The Ogre's Bride,' is apparently getting the full treatment, complete with new cast announcements and a first look trailer. The official website dropped the goods, showcasing some familiar names joining the fray. Manaka Iwami as Karin Shinonome and Ryouta Oosaka as Yota Kogetsu are just the tip of the iceberg. Sayaka Senbongi and Natsuki Hanae are also on board, so at least the voice acting should be competent. I suppose it's good they're not skimping on that, at least.
I'm not one for predictable tropes, and 'ogre' and 'bride' sounds like a recipe for exactly that. Still, Kureha's novel is getting this attention, so maybe there's something to it. The trailer is supposed to give us a taste, but let's be real, it's probably just going to show pretty characters and hint at some forced romance. But hey, if that's your thing, knock yourself out. The series is slated for a 2026 release, so mark your calendars or don't, I really don't care that much.
It’s always interesting to see which stories get the anime treatment. This one seems to be aiming for the dramatic romance crowd, which is… a crowd. Kazuhito Oomiya is directing, which might mean something if you follow directors, but to me, it's just another name on the credit roll. I'll probably skim through it if it gets popular enough, but don't expect me to be at the front of the line. It's just another show, after all. Whatever.
