Oh, here we go again. Another live-action adaptation, another attempt to capture lightning in a bottle. ‘One Piece’ Season 2 is apparently on the horizon, and to celebrate… or perhaps just to appease the inevitable legion of fans demanding more cute animal representation, they’ve commissioned a song for Chopper. ‘Am I Enough (Tony Tony Chopper)’ by Au/Ra. Sounds… earnest. Probably very earnest.
Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli, who have a knack for crafting these… atmospheric scores, are involved. I suppose if anyone can make a song about a reindeer doctor catchy, it’s them. But let’s be honest, the bar for live-action anime adaptations is still pretty low. I’m not saying it’s going to be a train wreck – the first season was surprisingly competent – but a song for Chopper? Are we sure this is the most pressing issue? I mean, there’s a whole pirate world out there to explore. But hey, if it makes the fangirls happy, I guess it serves a purpose.
Look, I’m always skeptical. Especially when it comes to beloved series like ‘One Piece.’ But if they manage to pull off Season 2 with the same level of effort as the first, and this song doesn’t make me want to bury my head in my hands, then… fine. I’ll acknowledge it. Just don’t expect me to start singing along. That’s a one-way ticket to embarrassing myself, and that’s not even remotely on my agenda.
