Alright, 'Liar Game' is getting an anime. Great. Another psychological thriller where people do stupid things for money. I suppose I'll have to watch it, but don't expect me to be thrilled. The first two episodes are going to screen at Sakura-Con on April 5th, which is… fine. And then it'll stream on Crunchyroll. So, if you're into that sort of thing, you can watch it. Just don't ask me if I cried during the emotional parts, because I probably won't.
It's always a gamble with these kinds of adaptations. Will they capture the tension? Will the characters actually feel like they're in over their heads? Or will it just be a watered-down version of the manga, trying too hard to be edgy? I'm skeptical, but I suppose there's always a small chance it could be… not entirely terrible. Maybe there will be a surprisingly clever plot twist, or a character who isn't completely oblivious to their surroundings. A girl can dream, right?
Look, I'm not saying I'm excited. I'm just saying I'll probably end up watching it. And if, by some miracle, it actually manages to surprise me with its drama or its cleverness, then… fine. I might even admit it was good. But I'm not holding my breath. It's probably just going to be another mediocre anime that I'll forget about in a month.
"A 'Liar Game' anime? Ugh, fine. I'll watch it, but don't expect me to be impressed unless it does something genuinely surprising. And it probably won't." — The Tsundere Critic
