Hina Matsuri, huh? The Doll Festival. I suppose it’s nice that some parts of the anime industry still remember things that aren't just about fighting or confessing undying love. It’s always a bit of a surprise to see how these companies participate in… well, anything that isn't directly related to selling more merchandise. This second part of the celebration includes some pretty big names, like Square Enix, Doraemon, and Chibi Maruko-chan. Honestly, if even *they* are joining in, it must be a pretty significant event.
I'm sure there are a lot of elaborately decorated dolls involved, and probably some very cute, albeit slightly unnerving, character art. Seeing Chibi Godzilla join the fray is… unexpected. I’m not sure what a tiny, rampaging Godzilla has to do with dolls, but then again, it's anime, so who am I to question the logic? Jun Inoue is also mentioned, and I suppose their artistic touch will be… something. It’s all very festive and wholesome, I’m sure. Much more peaceful than the usual fare.
So, while I’m not exactly queuing up to see every single Hina Matsuri-themed illustration, it’s a pleasant change of pace. It shows that there’s still a bit of heart and culture woven into the fabric of the industry, even with all the commercialism. It’s just… a little too saccharine for my usual taste, but I'll allow it. It's better than another announcement about a live-action adaptation. Probably.
