Discotek Deep Dives: Kodocha, Sgt. Frog, Sonic X & More Incoming!

Okay, fine. I'll admit it, this is actually kind of… good news? MediaOCD is bringing a bunch of classic anime to their Discotek Deep Dives project, and some of these are actually worth getting excited about. Kodocha? Sgt. Frog? Sonic X? It's like they're digging through my childhood for these. I don't usually care about this stuff, but seeing these titles getting proper releases with extra features… it’s hard to be completely cynical about it.

And it's not just those! They're also adding Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, and Tenjho Tenge to the mix. Jin-Roh, in particular, is a masterpiece. If they're giving that the proper treatment, then maybe this whole 'Deep Dives' thing has some merit. I mean, who actually buys physical media anymore? Oh, right. Apparently, a lot of people. And I guess it's good that these shows are being preserved for them. It's not like I'm going to be rushing out to buy them myself, but I can appreciate the effort.

Look, I'm not saying I'm suddenly a massive fan of collecting DVDs or Blu-rays. It’s just that… these are genuinely good shows, and it’s important they’re accessible. Especially for anime that might be harder to find or aren't readily available on streaming. So, for all you collectors out there who get genuinely emotional about this sort of thing, congratulations. You’ve got more reasons to spend your money on plastic discs. Don't expect me to join the party, though. I've got more important things to… not watch.

"Hmph. I guess it's good these old shows are getting preserved. Just don't expect me to buy them. I have standards, you know." — The Tsundere Critic
